What is Provera (medroxyprogesterone) used for? |
Provera (medroxyprogesterone) is used as for estrogen replacement therapy in post menopausal women. It is also used to treat irregular menstrual cycles, lack of menstruation, and abnormal menstrual bleeding and for the treatment of certain cancers (in combination with other medications).

When should Provera (medroxyprogesterone) not be taken?

Do not take Provera (medroxyprogesterone) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Provera (medroxyprogesterone) or to similar medications if you have certain blood clotting disorders or a history of these disorders (thrombophlebitis, thromboembolic disorders, cerebral apoplexy), if you have undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, undiagnosed urinary tract bleeding, undiagnosed breast disease. |
What precautions should I follow when taking Provera (medroxyprogesterone) ?

Before using Provera (medroxyprogesterone), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking or planning to take any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition if you have high blood pressure |

What are the side effects of Provera (medroxyprogesterone)?
|
|
Most severe: Sudden or severe headache, sudden loss of coordination, sudden loss or change of vision, pains in chest, groin, or leg, especially in calf of leg, sudden and unexplained shortness of breath, sudden slurring of speech, weakness or numbness in arm or leg
|
|
Most common: Dizziness, drowsiness, mild headache, mild blood pressure increase, mood changes (e.g., depression), nervousness, pain or swelling in abdomen, swelling of face, ankles, or feet, or a bloated feeling, unusual or rapid weight gain, acne, breast pain or tenderness, brown spots on exposed skin, changes in amount of body, facial, or scalp hair, changes in menstruation, hot flashes, loss of sexual interest, sleeping problems.

Other: Changes in vaginal bleeding, dry mouth, frequent urination, increase in blood sugar levels, loss of appetite, unusual thirst, depression, rash, increased flow of breast milk.

How should I take Provera (medroxyprogesterone)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Provera (medroxyprogesterone) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not stop taking Provera (medroxyprogesterone) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Provera (medroxyprogesterone). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.

How should Provera (medroxyprogesterone) be stored?
|

Store Provera (medroxyprogesterone) at room temperature in a cool dry place, protect from heat and light. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children and pets. |
