What is Relafen (nabumetone) used for? |
Relafen (nabumetone) is used to treat signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis(degenerative bone disease) and rheumatoid arthritis.

When should Relafen (nabumetone) not be taken?
|
Do not take Relafen (nabumetone) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Relafen (nabumetone) you have experienced asthma, hives, or allergic reactions after taking aspirin or similar medications (eg, ibuprofen) |
What precautions should I follow when taking Relafen (nabumetone) ?

Before using Relafen (nabumetone), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you have active peptic ulcers if you have a history of intestinal bleeding if you have impaired kidney function if you have severe liver impairment if you have a history of fluid retention if you have high blood pressure if you have heart disease if you are taking water pills or blood thinners if you have any other medical condition |

Use Relafen (nabumetone) with caution if you have congestive heart failure, high blood pressure, kidney or liver disease. Relafen (nabumetone) can cause sensitivity to sunlight. |
What are the side effects of Relafen (nabumetone)?

Most severe: Stomach perforation; bleeding.
|
|
Most common: Diarrhea; indigestion; stomach pain; constipation; gas; nausea; dizziness; headache; itching; rash; ringing in the ears; swelling.

Other: Sensitivity to sunlight; dry mouth; mouth sores; vomiting; tiredness; increased sweating; sleeplessness; nervousness; drowsiness.

How should I take Relafen (nabumetone)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Relafen (nabumetone) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the information provided with Relafen (nabumetone) and reread it each time you get this prescription refilled. Take Relafen (nabumetone) exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. Relafen (nabumetone) may be taken with or without food. Talk with your health care provider about the possibility of side effects while using Relafen (nabumetone) and its benefits, particularly when Relafen (nabumetone) is used for less serious conditions that can be treated with other medicines. Relafen (nabumetone) may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Relafen (nabumetone) may cause sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and other ultraviolet light (eg, tanning beds). Use sunscreens and wear protective clothing until tolerance is determined. Lab tests will be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not stop taking Relafen (nabumetone) without talking with your health care provider. Do not take any over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. Patients with other medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Relafen (nabumetone). Do not use more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Contact your health care provider at once if you feel you have taken too much of Relafen (nabumetone). If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised to by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, restart medication and contact your health care provider.
