Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) is used to temporarily relieve cold symptoms, including nasal congestion and cough due to minor throat and bronchial irritations. It helps loosen mucus and makes cough more productive.

Do not take/give Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) if you and/or your child are allergic to any ingredient in Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) or to similar medications you and/or your child are taking a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor

Before using Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you and/or your child are taking any prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you and/or your child have heart disease if you and/or your child have high blood pressure if you and/or your child have diabetes if you and/or your child have thyroid disease if you have difficulty urinating due to an enlarged prostate gland (adults only) if you and/or your child have a persistent or chronic cough, such as occurs with smoking, emphysema, asthma, or chronic bronchitis if you and/or your child have a cough that occurs with excessive mucus if you and/or your child have any other medical condition

Patients with diabetes, heart or thyroid disease, high blood pressure, glaucoma or difficulty in urination due to prostate enlargement should not take Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan).

Other: Muscular weakness, dry mouth, palpitation, difficulty in urination.

How much medicine you take/give and how often it is taken/given depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) you are taking/giving, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the directions provided with Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) and reread it each time you get this prescription refilled. Take or give Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) exactly as recommended by your health care provider. Use the dosing cup provided for accurate dosing. If symptoms worsen, do not improve within 7 days, or occur with fever, stop using Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) and contact your health care provider. Stop taking or giving Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) and contact your health care provider if nervousness, dizziness, or sleeplessness occur. Stop taking or giving Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) and contact your health care provider if cough lasts for more than 7 days, comes back, or occurs with fever, rash, or persistent headache. These could be signs of a serious condition. Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) may cause dizziness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Diabetes patients -- Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) may affect blood sugar levels. Your doctor may need to change the amount of diabetes medicine being taken. Do not take/give Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) if you or your child are currently taking or have taken an MAO inhibitor within the last 2 weeks. If you are unsure whether the other medications contain an MAO inhibitor, check with your health care provider. Consult a doctor before giving Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) to children under 2 years of age. Do not stop taking or giving Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking or giving Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan). Do not take or give more medicine than recommended unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take or give any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, take or give it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Store Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) at room temperature (between 68 and 77 degrees F). Protect from light.
