Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) is used to temporarily relieve cold symptoms, including nasal congestion and cough due to minor throat and bronchial irritations. It helps loosen mucus and makes cough more productive.

Patients with diabetes, heart or thyroid disease, high blood pressure, glaucoma or difficulty in urination due to prostate enlargement should not take Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan).

What are the side effects of Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan)?

Most severe: Nausea, vomoting, gastrointestinal upset, drowsiness, confusion.
Most common:  Nervousness; dizziness; sleeplessness.
Other: Muscular weakness, dry mouth, palpitation, difficulty in urination.

How should I take Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan)?

How much medicine you take/give and how often it is taken/given depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) you are taking/giving, talk with your health care provider. These could be signs of a serious condition. Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) may cause dizziness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Diabetes patients -- Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) may affect blood sugar levels. Your doctor may need to change the amount of diabetes medicine being taken. Do not take/give Robitussin DM (guaifenesin/dextromethorphan) if you or your child are currently taking or have taken an MAO inhibitor within the last 2 weeks. If you are unsure whether the other medications contain an MAO inhibitor, check with your health care provider.
