Salazopyrin (sulfasalazine EC) is used for the treatment of ulcerative colitis

Do not take Salazopyrin (sulfasalazine EC) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Salazopyrin (sulfasalazine EC) or to similar medications, if you have an intestinal or urinary obstruction or if you have porphyria (an inherited disorder involving the substance that gives color to the skin and iris of the eyes).

Before using Salazopyrin (sulfasalazine EC), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition like heart disease, lung disease, impairment of kidney or liver functions.

Take Salazopyrin (sulfasalazine EC) in evenly spaced, equal doses, as determined by your doctor, preferably after meals or with food to avoid stomach upset. Swallow Salazopyrin (sulfasalazine EC) whole. It is important that you drink plenty of fluids while taking Salazopyrin (sulfasalazine EC) to avoid kidney stones.

Other: Blood disorders, blood in the urine, bloody diarrhea, convulsions, diarrhea, diminished urination, drowsiness, hallucinations, hearing loss, hepatitis, inability to fall or stay asleep, intestinal inflammation, itchy skin eruptions, joint pain, kidney disorders, lack of muscle coordination, loss of hair, mental depression, red, raised rash, ringing in the ears, sensitivity to light, severe allergic reaction, skin discoloration, skin disorders, spinal cord defects, swelling around the eye, urinary tract infections, urine discoloration, vertigo

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Salazopyrin (sulfasalazine EC) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. You must take Salazopyrin (sulfasalazine EC) regularly for it to be effective. Since blood pressure declines gradually, it may be several weeks before you get the full benefit of the drug; and you must continue taking it even if you are feeling well. Salazopyrin (sulfasalazine EC) does not cure blood pressure; it merely keeps it under control. Do not stop taking Salazopyrin (sulfasalazine EC) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Salazopyrin (sulfasalazine EC). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist. Men taking Salazopyrin (sulfasalazine EC) may experience temporary infertility and a low sperm count. In addition, prolonged exposure to the sun should be avoided.

Store Salazopyrin (sulfasalazine EC) at room temperature in a cool dry place, protect from heat and light. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children and pets.
