Salsalate (not available in Canada) can irritate your stomach. Do not smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol; these increase irritation in your stomach and may cause ulcers or bleeding problems. Do not lie down for 30 minutes after taking Salsalate (not available in Canada) to prevent irritation to your throat. |

Most severe: Bleeding from the stomach or intestine such as black, tarry stools, stomach pain, vomiting up blood, confusion, didifficulty breathing, wheezing, ringing in the ears or changes in hearing, skin rash, hives, unusual bleeding or bruising, red or purple spots on the skin

Most common: Diarrhea or constipation, nausea, vomiting, stomach gas, heartburn

How should I take Salsalate (not available in Canada)?

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Salsalate (not available in Canada) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not stop taking Salsalate (not available in Canada) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Salsalate (not available in Canada). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist. If you you are taking oral medicines to decrease your blood sugar, large doses of magnesium salicylate may increase the levels of these drugs. Check with your health care professional before you change your diet or the dose of your diabetic medicine. Take the tablets by mouth with a large glass of water. You may take the tablets with food to help decrease stomach upset. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take Salsalate (not available in Canada) more often than directed.
