What is Sansert (methysergide maleate) used for? |
Sansert (methysergide maleate) is for the prevention or reduction of vascular headaches in patients who have frequent or severe vascular headaches.

When should Sansert (methysergide maleate) not be taken?
|
Do not take Sansert (methysergide maleate) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Sansert (methysergide maleate) you are pregnant or breastfeeding you have circulatory disease of the limbs you have severe hardening of the arteries you have severe high blood pressure you have heart disease you have vein inflammation or cell inflammation of the lower limbs you have disease of the lungs or connective tissues you have impaired liver or kidney function you are in a debilitating condition you have a serious infection |
What precautions should I follow when taking Sansert (methysergide maleate) ?

What are the side effects of Sansert (methysergide maleate)?

Most severe: Lung problems; seizure; heart problems.
|
|
Most common: Nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; heartburn; stomach pain; sleeplessness; drowsiness; dizziness; exaggerated sense of well-being; clumsiness; lightheadedness; increased sensitivity to pain; swelling of the limbs; weight gain; weakness; joint pain; muscle pain; fever; enlarged eye pupils.

Other: Weakness, pain in muscles and joints, excessive tiredness

How should I take Sansert (methysergide maleate)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount andperor frequency of Sansert (methysergide maleate) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Take Sansert (methysergide maleate) with food. Weight gain while taking Sansert (methysergide maleate) may require a change in diet. After every 6 months of taking Sansert (methysergide maleate), do not take Sansert (methysergide maleate) for at least 3 to 4 weeks. If after 3 weeks of taking Sansert (methysergide maleate), no changes or effectiveness have been seen, stop taking Sansert (methysergide maleate). If you experience the following symptoms, report them to your health care provider and discontinue Sansert (methysergide maleate): Cold, numb, and painful hands and feet; leg cramps while walking; any type of girdle, flank, or chest pain; shortness of breath. Do not take Sansert (methysergide maleate) if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not use Sansert (methysergide maleate) to treat serious migraine attacks. Do not use Sansert (methysergide maleate) in a child. Sansert (methysergide maleate) may cause drowsiness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring mental alertness, coordination, or physical skill. Regular doctor examinations will be necessary while taking Sansert (methysergide maleate). Be sure to keep appointments. Do not stop taking Sansert (methysergide maleate) without checking with your doctor. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Sansert (methysergide maleate). Do not take more medicine than is prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
