What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Sarna HC (hydrocortisone)?

Sarna HC (hydrocortisone) is for external use only. Do not use Sarna HC (hydrocortisone) in or around the eyes. Do not apply Sarna HC (hydrocortisone) to large areas of the body. Do not use to treat vulvar itching associated with vaginal discharge. Use only for 7 days maximum. If symptoms persist beyond 7 days or return after discontinuing use of the product, consult your health care provider. |

Most severe: Acne-like skin eruptions, burning, dryness, growth of excessive hair, inflammation of the hair follicles, inflammation around the mouth, irritation, itching, peeling skin, prickly heat, secondary infection, skin inflammation, skin softening,

Most common: Burning; itching; irritation; dryness; inflamed hair follicles; excessive hair growth; acne; loss of skin color; inflamed skin around the mouth; skin inflammation; secondary infection; stinging and cracking of the skin; skin wasting; streaks in the skin.

How should I take Sarna HC (hydrocortisone)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Sarna HC (hydrocortisone) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Sarna HC (hydrocortisone) is for external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes. Apply a thin film of medicine to the affected area 2 to 4 times daily or as directed by your health care provider. Do not cover, bandage, or wrap the area being treated unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Report any irritation or other side effects to your health care provider, especially under an occlusive dressing. Avoid prolonged use, especially near the eyes, on the face, on genital and rectal areas, and in skin folds. Skin infections may worsen. It may be necessary to stop using Sarna HC (hydrocortisone) and treat the infection. Skin wasting may occur after 3 to 4 weeks of regular daily use. Allergic reactions may occur. If the condition worsens or irritation, burning, redness, swelling, or stinging persists, do not reapply. Contact your doctor. Tight-fitting diapers or plastic pants should not be used on a child being treated in the diaper area. Lab tests may be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Sarna HC (hydrocortisone). If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised to by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider.
