What is Sensipar (not available in Canada) used for? |
Sensipar (not available in Canada) is used to reduce elevated levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH) in people with chronic renal disease who are on dialysis. Sensipar (not available in Canada) is also used to lower calcium levels in patients with cancer of the parathyroid gland.

Most severe: Severe allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives),

Most common: Nausea or vomiting, decreased appetite, diarrhea, dizziness.
|

Other: Muscle pain, cramping, twitching, or spasms; numbness or tingling; or seizures
|
How should I take Sensipar (not available in Canada)?

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Sensipar (not available in Canada) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not stop taking Sensipar (not available in Canada) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Sensipar (not available in Canada). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist. Take Sensipar (not available in Canada) exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take Sensipar (not available in Canada) with food or immediately following a meal. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets. Swallow them whole. It is important to take Sensipar (not available in Canada) regularly to get the most benefit. Your doctor may want you to have blood tests or other medical evaluations during treatment with Sensipar (not available in Canada) to monitor progress and side effects.
