What is Serophene (clomiphene) used for? |
Serophene (clomiphene) is used to treat female infertility when the woman desires pregnancy and the sexual partner is fertile and potent. Doctors may occasionally prescribe it for other reasons.

When should Serophene (clomiphene) not be taken?
|
Do not take Serophene (clomiphene) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Serophene (clomiphene) you are pregnant you have abnormal vaginal bleeding you have small growths on the ovaries not due to polycystic ovarian syndrome you have liver problems or liver disease you have uncontrolled thyroid or adrenal problems you have an organic intracranial lesion, (such as a pituitary tumor) |
What precautions should I follow when taking Serophene (clomiphene) ?

Before using Serophene (clomiphene), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition |

Treatment with Serophene (clomiphene) increases the possibility of multiple births and birth defects. Although no direct effects of the drug on the unborn child have been established. |
What are the side effects of Serophene (clomiphene)?
|
|
Most severe: Spontaneous abortion.
|
|
Most common: Flushing; stomach or pelvic pain or bloating; blurred vision or vision problems (spots or flashes).
|
|
Other: Nausea; vomiting; breast discomfort; headache.
|
How should I take Serophene (clomiphene)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Serophene (clomiphene) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Blurring or other vision problems may occur. If vision problems occur, stop using Serophene (clomiphene) and call your doctor about a complete eye exam. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Enlargement of the ovaries may happen during or shortly after taking Serophene (clomiphene). Call your health care provider if you experience any stomach or pelvic pain, weight gain, pain, or stomach enlargement or discomfort while taking Serophene (clomiphene). Pregnancies of more than one fetus are possible and poses potential hazards while taking Serophene (clomiphene). Properly timed sexual intercourse is important for good results. Ovulation usually occurs 5 to 10 days after a dose of Serophene (clomiphene). If pregnancy has not been successful after three courses of treatment, further treatment is not recommended. Long-term use of Serophene (clomiphene) is not recommended. Lab and pregnancy tests will be needed while taking Serophene (clomiphene). Be sure to keep appointments. Your health care provider should explain to you the risks of using Serophene (clomiphene). Do not stop taking Serophene (clomiphene) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Serophene (clomiphene). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medicines without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
