What is Sibelium (flunarizine) used for? |
Sibelium (flunarizine) is used to prevent classic (with aura) or common (without aura) migraine. Sibelium (flunarizine) is also used for the symptomatic treatment of vestibular vertigo (due to a diagnosed functional disorder of the vestibular system).

When should Sibelium (flunarizine) not be taken?
|
Do not take Sibelium (flunarizine) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Sibelium (flunarizine) if you are pregnant if you have a hsitory of history of depressive illness, or with pre-existing symptoms of Parkinson's disease or other extrapyramidal disorders. |
What precautions should I follow when taking Sibelium (flunarizine) ?

Before using Sibelium (flunarizine), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant, or breastfeeding; if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have impaired kidney, liver, heart or lung condition or if you have any other medical conditions |
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Sibelium (flunarizine)?

Sibelium (flunarizine) may lead to drowsiness which is aggravated by the simultaneous intake of alcohol or other central nervous system depressants. Patients should be cautioned against driving motor vehicles or performing other potentially hazardous tasks where a loss of mental alertness may lead to accidents. Sibelium (flunarizine) should be used with care in patients with depression or those being prescribed other agents, such as phenothiazines, concurrently, which may cause extrapyramidal side-effects.Fatigue may increase progressively during treatment with Sibelium (flunarizine), in this event therapy should be discontinued. The recommended dose should not be exceeded. Patients should be seen at regular intervals, especially during maintenance treatment, so that extrapyramidal or depressive symptoms may be detected early and if so, treatment discontinued. If during maintenance treatment the therapeutic effects subside, treatment should also be discontinued |
What are the side effects of Sibelium (flunarizine)?

Most severe: Sedation, agitation and tachycardia.
|
|
Most common: Drowsiness and/or fatigue, weight gain, increased appetite, depression, extrapyramidal symptoms (such as bradykinesia, rigidity, akathisia, orofacial dyskinesia, tremor) especially in elderly patients,

|
Other: Heartburn; nausea; gastralgia; insomnia; anxiety; galactorrhoea; dry mouth; muscle ache; skin rash.

How should I take Sibelium (flunarizine)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Sibelium (flunarizine) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. If stomach upset occurs, take with food. Sibelium (flunarizine) can cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Avoid alcohol and other medicines (sedatives, tranquilizers) that cause drowsiness. Do not stop taking Sibelium (flunarizine) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Sibelium (flunarizine). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your Health care provider or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your Health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your Health care provider or pharmacist.

Store Sibelium (flunarizine) at room temperature, in a cool, dry place. Keep out of the reach of children and pets. |
