Sinequan (doxepin) is used to relieve depression or anxiety in patients over 12 years of age. Doctors may occasionally prescribe it for other reasons.

Do not take Sinequan (doxepin) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Sinequan (doxepin) or to similar medications you have glaucoma you have difficulty urinating

Before using Sinequan (doxepin), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you are currently taking or have taken a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor ( Nardil , Parnate , Marplan ) within the last 2 weeks if you have angle-closure glaucoma or increased eye pressure if you have heart disease, chest pain, or irregular heart beat if you have an overactive thyroid if you suffer from a mental illness if you have seizure disorder, suicidal tendencies, or if you are undergoing electroshock therapy if you consume 3 or more alcoholic beverages a day if you have any other medical condition

Sinequan (doxepin) may cause drowsiness and impaired alertness. Driving or operating dangerous machinery or participating in any hazardous activity that requires full mental alertness is not recommended.

Other:  Swelling; confusion; weakness; fatigue; headache; incoordination; dizziness; fast heartbeat; itching; rash; flushing; sensitivity to light; sweating; swelling of testicles; changes in sex drive; breast enlargement; milk production in females; blurred vision; ringing in ears; weight changes; unusual bruising; inflammation of mouth; hair loss; tremor; numbness or tingling in arms or legs; abnormal skin sensations; chills; taste changes; small red spots under the skin.

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Sinequan (doxepin) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not use Sinequan (doxepin) while taking an MAO inhibitor or within 14 days of stopping treatment with an MAO inhibitor. After stopping Sinequan (doxepin), wait at least 2 weeks before starting an MAO inhibitor. If you are uncertain whether your other medications contain an MAO inhibitor, talk with your health care provider. Sinequan (doxepin) may take 2 or 3 weeks to control symptoms of depression. Taking Sinequan (doxepin) at bedtime may help reduce side effects (eg, daytime drowsiness). Discuss this possibility with your doctor. Sinequan (doxepin) may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Diabetes patients - Sinequan (doxepin) may affect your blood sugar level. Your doctor may need to change the amount of diabetes medicine you are taking. Avoid drinking alcohol or taking other medicines that may cause drowsiness (eg, sedatives, tranquilizers) while taking Sinequan (doxepin). Sinequan (doxepin) may cause sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and other ultraviolet light. Use sunscreens and wear protective clothing until tolerance is determined. Lab tests may be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not give Sinequan (doxepin) to children less than 12 years of age without talking with your health care provider. Do not stop taking Sinequan (doxepin) without checking with your doctor. Do not take more medication than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Sinequan (doxepin). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Store Sinequan (doxepin) at room controlled room temperature (between 59 and 86 degrees F). Keep in a child-resistant container.
