What are the side effects of Singulair (monteleukast)?

Most severe: Severe allergic reaction; Churg-Strauss syndrome.
|
|
Most common: Headache; flu.
|
|
Other: Stomach pain; cough; stomach upset; abnormal dreams; drowsiness; irritability or restlessness.
|
How should I take Singulair (monteleukast)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount andperor frequency of Singulair (monteleukast) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Take Singulair (monteleukast) once daily in the evening. Take Singulair (monteleukast) as prescribed, even when you feel no symptoms of asthma. Call your health care provider if your asthma is not controlled. Singulair (monteleukast) is not for the relief of asthma attacks. If an attack happens, follow the instructions given to you by your health care provider. If you experience asthma, use your prescribed rescue medicine (eg, albuterol). Continue to take your usual dose of medicines prescribed to you for the prevention of asthma unless told to do otherwise by your health care provider. Patients who are sensitive to aspirin should continue to avoid taking aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicine (eg, Tylenol , Advil ) while taking Singulair (monteleukast). Phenylketonuric patients - Singulair (monteleukast) contains phenylalanine. Singulair (monteleukast) may be taken with or without food in the evening. Do not decrease or stop taking Singulair (monteleukast) without checking with your doctor. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Singulair (monteleukast). Do not take more medication than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medicines without talking with your doctor. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
