Solu-Cortef (hydrocortisone sodium succinate) is used to treat a variety of medical conditions including, but not limited to, insufficiency of the adrenal cortex, inflammatory disorders, allergic disorders, connective tissue disorders, blood disorders (leukemia and various anemias), certain cancers (along with other drugs), skin diseases (including severe psoriasis), connective tissue diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, digestive tract diseases such as ulcerative colitis, high serum levels of calcium associated with cancer, fluid retention due to nephrotic syndrome, various eye diseases, lung diseases such as tuberculosis, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, acute gouty arthritis, and severe cases of asthma.

Do not take Solu-Cortef (hydrocortisone sodium succinate) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Solu-Cortef (hydrocortisone sodium succinate) or to similar medications you have a systemic fungal infection

Before using Solu-Cortef (hydrocortisone sodium succinate), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine or dietary supplements if you have amebiasis if you have diverticulitis if you have emotional instability if you have herpes simplex infection of the eye if you have high blood pressure if you have infections if you have kidney or liver disease if you have myasthenia gravis (severe muscle weakness) if you have had a recent heart attack if you have osteoporosis (brittle bones) if you have a peptic ulcer if you have psychotic tendencies if you are under unusual stress if you have known or suspected threadworm infestation if you have tuberculosis if you have history of ulcer or intestinal problems if you have an underactive thyroid if you have any other medical condition

Solu-Cortef (hydrocortisone sodium succinate) can alter the way your body responds to unusual stress. If you are injured, need surgery, or develop an acute illness, inform your doctor. Your dosage may need to be increased. Solu-Cortef (hydrocortisone sodium succinate) may aggravate existing emotional problems or cause new ones. You may experience an exaggerated sense of well-being and difficulty sleeping, mood swings, or mental problems. If you have any changes in mood, contact your doctor.

Other: Suppression of growth in children, symptoms of diabetes, thin, fragile skin, tiny red or purplish spots on the skin, vertigo

How much medicine you take and how often it is taken depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Solu-Cortef (hydrocortisone sodium succinate) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Solu-Cortef (hydrocortisone sodium succinate) should only be given by a health care professional in a medical setting. Solu-Cortef (hydrocortisone sodium succinate) should only be used if you cannot take medicine orally. Diabetic patients may require increased doses of insulin or oral diabetes medications. Patients on long-term therapy should wear or carry identification noting that Solu-Cortef (hydrocortisone sodium succinate) is being taken. Talk with your doctor if you experience unusual weight gain, swelling of the lower extremities, muscle weakness, black, tarry stools, vomiting of blood, puffing of the face, prolonged sore throat, fever, cold, or other signs of infection. Solu-Cortef (hydrocortisone sodium succinate) may mask signs of infection, and new infections may appear during use. Solu-Cortef (hydrocortisone sodium succinate) may decrease resistance to an infection. If you are on high doses of Solu-Cortef (hydrocortisone sodium succinate), avoid exposure to chickenpox or measles. If you are exposed, talk with your doctor at once. Solu-Cortef (hydrocortisone sodium succinate) may cause an elevation in blood pressure, salt and water retention, and increased potassium loss. Dietary salt restriction and potassium supplements may be necessary. Solu-Cortef (hydrocortisone sodium succinate) cause calcium loss and can promote the development of osteoporosis (brittle bones). Take adequate calcium and vitamin D supplements. Avoid any type of live virus vaccines, especially for smallpox, while taking Solu-Cortef (hydrocortisone sodium succinate). Lab tests and doctor visits will be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not take any over-the-counter or prescription medications or dietary supplements without talking with your health care provider. Patients with other medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Solu-Cortef (hydrocortisone sodium succinate).

Store Solu-Cortef (hydrocortisone sodium succinate) at room temperature. Protect from heat.
