Soriatane (acitretin) is used for the treatment of psoriasis and certain other skin disorders

|
Do not take Soriatane (acitretin) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Soriatane (acitretin) or to similar medications if you have severely reduced kidney or liver function, certain types of abnormal cholesterol levels, allergy to vitamin A. |
What precautions should I follow when taking Soriatane (acitretin) ?

Before using Soriatane (acitretin), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking or planning to take any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition if you have high blood pressure |

Protect yourself from exposure to the sun, as Soriatane (acitretin) may increase the sensitivity of your skin to the sun. |
What are the side effects of Soriatane (acitretin)?
|
|
Most severe: Aches or pains in bones or joints, difficulty in moving, headaches, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, other visual problems, changes in mood, persistent feeling of dry eyes, decrease in night vision, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, flu-like symptoms
|
|
Most common: Skin peeling/scaling (especially in first few weeks), dry mouth, chapped lips (especially in first few weeks), hair loss (especially in first few weeks), itchiness (especially in first few weeks), sticky skin, nail disorders, dry skin, rash, rhinitis, dry eyes, sore joints
|

Other: Inflammation around the fingernails, numbness, reaction to sunlight, skin ulcers, cold/clammy skin, increased sweating, abnormal hair texture, infection, thirst, mouth sores, gum swelling and/or bleeding, increased saliva, nosebleeds, eye irritatio
|
How should I take Soriatane (acitretin)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Soriatane (acitretin) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not stop taking Soriatane (acitretin) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Soriatane (acitretin). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.

Store Soriatane (acitretin) at room temperature in a cool dry place, protect from heat and light. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children and pets. |
