What is Synvisc (hylan GF 20) used for? |
Synvisc (hylan GF 20) is used to treat knee pain in osteoarthritis patients who do not respond to other treatments.

When should Synvisc (hylan GF 20) not be taken?
|
Do not use Synvisc (hylan GF 20) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Synvisc (hylan GF 20) or to similar medications you have a skin disease or infection in the area of the injection site you have severely inflamed joints |
What precautions should I follow when taking Synvisc (hylan GF 20) ?

Before using Synvisc (hylan GF 20), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you are allergic to bird proteins, feathers, or egg products if you have any other medical condition |

Most severe: Mild allergic reaction (rash; hives; swelling).

Most common: Back pain; pain, itching, or swelling at the injection site; rash; headache; joint pain.

How should I take Synvisc (hylan GF 20)?
|
How much medicine you are given and how often it is given depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Synvisc (hylan GF 20) you are being given, talk with your health care provider. Synvisc (hylan GF 20) should only be given by a health care professional who is experienced with the use of Synvisc (hylan GF 20). Pain or swelling may occur at the injection site. Avoid exercise or any strenuous activities, such as jogging or tennis, within 48 hours after being injected with Synvisc (hylan GF 20). Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before receiving Synvisc (hylan GF 20). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements.
