What is Tempra (acetaminophen) used for? |
Tempra (acetaminophen) is used to reduce fever and to temporarily relieve minor aches and pains due to the common cold, flu, headache, muscle aches, sprains, overexertion.

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Tempra (acetaminophen)?
|
Regular use of Tempra (acetaminophen) has been shown to produce a slight increase in prothrombin time in patients receiving oral anticoagulants. Over dosage or poisoning caused by Tempra (acetaminophen) can result in severe hepatic damage. Concomitant ingestion of phenobarbital may increase the likelihood of liver necrosis in overdose caused by Tempra (acetaminophen). The chronic ingestion of alcohol may be implicated in the increasing potential for hepatic toxicity. |
What are the side effects of Tempra (acetaminophen)?

Most severe: Skin rash, hives, unusual bleeding or bruising, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps or pain, black tarry stools, difficulty breathing, wheezing, yellowing of the skin or eyes.

How should I take Tempra (acetaminophen)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Tempra (acetaminophen) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Chew the Tablet before swallowing. Tempra (acetaminophen) may be given every 4 hours but not more than 5 times daily. If pain or fever persists or gets worse, if symptoms do not improve, if new symptoms occur, or if redness or swelling is present, stop using Tempra (acetaminophen) and consult a doctor. These could be signs of a serious condition. Stop using Tempra (acetaminophen) and contact your doctor if your child has a sore throat that is severe, lasts more than 2 days, or occurs with fever, headache, rash, nausea, or vomiting. Do not give for more than 5 days for pain or for more than 3 days for fever unless directed by a health care provider. Do not use Tempra (acetaminophen) in children under 2 years of age or less than 24 pounds without consulting a physician. Talk with your doctor about your child's previous medical conditions before administering Tempra (acetaminophen). Do not give more medication than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor. If a dose is missed, give it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.

Store Tempra (acetaminophen) at room temperature and protected from light. Do not store in a humid (wet or moist) area such as the bathroom. |
