What is Timoptic (timolol) used for? |
Timoptic (timolol) is used to help lower the pressure inside the eye in patients with open-angle glaucoma and other eye conditions.

When should Timoptic (timolol) not be taken?
|
Do not take Timoptic (timolol) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Timoptic (timolol) or to similar medications, if you have bronchial asthma, a history of bronchial asthma, or other serious breathing disorders such as emphysema, slow heartbeat, heart block (conduction disorder), active heart failure, or inadequate blood supply to the circulatory system (cardiogenic shock). |
What precautions should I follow when taking Timoptic (timolol) ?

Before using Timoptic (timolol), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition like heart disease, lung disease, impairment of kidney or liver functions. |
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Timoptic (timolol)?

Do not use Timoptic (timolol) for prolonged periods of time. Some older individuals may be more sensitive to this product than younger people. If you develop an eye infection, suffer an eye injury, or have eye surgery, check with your doctor. You may need to stop using Timoptic (timolol). |
What are the side effects of Timoptic (timolol)?

Most severe: Rash, ringing in the ears, sensation of a foreign body in the eye, severe allergic reactions, sinus inflammation, skin tingling, sleepiness, slow heartbeat, stroke, stuffy nose, swelling, swelling of the face and neck, throbbing or fluttering heartbeat, tingling or pins and needles, upper respiratory infection, visual disturbances, weakness, wheezing, worsened angina pectoris (crushing chest pain)

Most common: Blurred or abnormal vision, cataracts, chest pain, cold hands and feet, common cold, confusion, conjunctivitis (pinkeye), cough, decreased sex drive, depression, diarrhea, difficult or labored breathing, difficulty swallowing, disorientation, dizziness, double vision, drooping eyelid, dry mouth, eye discharge, eye dryness or irritation and inflammation, eye pain or itching and tearing, fainting, fatigue, fluid in the lungs, hair loss, hallucinations, headache, heart failure, high blood pressure, hives, impotence, inability to breathe

Other: Indigestion, inflammation or swelling of the eyelid, intolerance of light, itching, irregular heartbeat, loss of appetite, low blood pressure, memory loss, nausea, nervousness, nightmares, pain, pain or swelling in arms and legs, psoriasis

How should I take Timoptic (timolol)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Timoptic (timolol) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not stop taking Timoptic (timolol) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Timoptic (timolol). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.

How should Timoptic (timolol) be stored?

Store Timoptic (timolol) at room temperature in a cool dry place, protect from heat and light. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children and pets. |
