Transderm V Patch (scopolamine) is used to prevent nausea and vomiting associated with motion sickness and recovery from anesthesia and surgery.

What precautions should I follow when taking Transderm V Patch (scopolamine) ?

Before using Transderm V Patch (scopolamine), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have difficulty urinating due to an enlarged prostate or narrow bladder neck if you have liver or kidney impairment if you have open-angle glaucoma if you have a history of seizures or bizarre behavior if you have blockage of the stomach or intestine if you have any other medical condition |

What are the side effects of Transderm V Patch (scopolamine)?

Most severe: Pain and reddening of the eyes, accompanied by dilated pupils; difficulty urinating.
|
|
Most common: Dry mouth; drowsiness; dizziness; blurred vision.
|
|
Other: Confusion; dry, itchy eyes; restlessness; rash; redness; memory loss; changes in heart rate; hallucinations. The following symptoms may occur if you suddenly stop taking Transderm V Patch (scopolamine): Dizziness; nausea; vomiting; headache; loss of balance; muscle weakness; slow heartbeat; fainting.

How should I take Transderm V Patch (scopolamine)?
|
How much medicine you use and how often you use it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Transderm V Patch (scopolamine) you are using, talk with your health care provider. Transderm V Patch (scopolamine) should be applied to the skin, behind the ear, at least 4 hours before the desired effect is needed. If the patch comes loose at any time before you are ready to remove it, throw the patch away and place another patch behind the opposite ear. If Transderm V Patch (scopolamine) is needed for longer than 3 days, remove the first patch and place another patch behind the opposite ear at least 4 hours before the effect of Transderm V Patch (scopolamine) is required. For after surgery patients, apply the patch the night before surgery. Do not touch your eyes until after you have washed your hands. Keep the patch in place for 24 hours and discard of the patch properly. Wear only 1 patch at a time. Do not cut the patch. Remove the patch at once and promptly contact your health care provider if you experience pain and reddening of the eyes accompanied by dilated pupils. Keep the patch dry, if possible, to prevent it from falling off. Limited contact with water, as in swimming or bathing, will not affect the patch. Remove the patch if you experience any problems urinating. Use caution while taking Transderm V Patch (scopolamine) if you participate in underwater sports. Transderm V Patch (scopolamine) may cause you to become disoriented. You may experience eye sensitivity while using Transderm V Patch (scopolamine). Protect eyes from bright light while using Transderm V Patch (scopolamine). Wash your hands immediately with soap and water after using Transderm V Patch (scopolamine), and then dry them completely. Dispose of Transderm V Patch (scopolamine) patch properly. Transderm V Patch (scopolamine) may cause drowsiness, blurred vision, disorientation, or confusion. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Avoid drinking alcohol or taking other medications that cause drowsiness (eg, sedatives, tranquilizers) while using Transderm V Patch (scopolamine). Do not stop using Transderm V Patch (scopolamine) without checking with your doctor. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Transderm V Patch (scopolamine). Do not use more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medicines without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, use it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
