What is Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate) used for? |
Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate) is used to temporary relieve runny nose, sneezing, and nasal congestion due to the common cold, sinus inflammation, and hay fever. It helps clear nasal passages, shrinks swollen membranes, decongests sinus openings, promotes sinus drainage, and relieves sinus pressure.

Do not take/give Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate) if you and/or your child are allergic to any ingredient in Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate) or to similar medications you and/or your child have severe heart disease you and/or your child have severe high blood pressure you and/or your child are currently taking monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors, sedatives or tranquilizers |

Before using Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you or your child are taking any prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you and/or your child have high blood pressure if you and/or your child have heart disease if you and/or your child have diabetes if you and/or your child have peptic ulcers if you and/or your child have intestinal blockage if you and/or your child have narrow-angle glaucoma if you and/or your child have an overactive thyroid if you have difficulty urinating due to an enlarged prostate or a narrow bladder neck (adults only) if you and/or your child have asthma, emphysema, or lung disease if you and/or your child have increased pressure within the eye if you and/or your child are taking hypnotics, sedatives, or tranquilizers if you and/or your child have any other medical condition |

Do not take/give Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate) if you have epilepsy, high blood pressure, diabetes, glaucoma, heart, liver, thyroid or lung diseases, including asthma, bladder neck obstruction, stenosing peptic ulcer, pyloroduodenal obstruction, difficulty in urination due to enlargement of the prostate gland or if you are on other medication. |

Most severe: Allergic reaction (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of the mouth, face, lips or throat; tightness in the chest); tremor; hallucinations; convulsions; unusual tiredness; shock (changes in skin color); hysteria; pounding in the chest; fast or irregular heartbeat.

Most common: Drowsiness; nervousness; dizziness; sleeplessness; excitability (especially in children).
|
|
Other: Chills; fear; anxiety; tenseness; restlessness; dry mouth, nose, and throat; irritability; nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; constipation; thickening of bronchial secretions; wheezing; stuffy nose; pale skin; headache; lightheadedness; blurred vision; double vision; appetite loss; ringing in the ears; stomach upset or pain; excessive sweating; sensitivity to light; early menstrual flow; tiredness; exaggerated sense of well-being; abnormal skin sensations; feeling of whirling motion; frequent urination; difficulty urinating; urinary retention; confusion; weakness; incoordination.

How should I take Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate)?
|
How much medicine you take/give and how often it is taken/given depend on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate) you are taking/giving, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the patient leaflet provided with Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate) and reread it each time you get your prescription refilled. Take or give Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate) exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. Stop taking or giving Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate) and contact your health care provider if nervousness, dizziness, or sleeplessness occur. Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate) may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Avoid drinking alcohol or taking/giving other medicines that cause drowsiness (eg, sedatives, tranquilizers) while taking/giving Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate). Diabetes patients -- Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate) may affect blood sugar levels. Your doctor may need to change the amount of diabetes medicine being taken. Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate) may cause sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and other ultraviolet light. Use sunscreens and wear protective clothing until tolerance is determined. Do not take or give Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate) if you and/or your child are currently taking an MAO inhibitor. If you are uncertain whether other medications contain an MAO inhibitor, check with your health care provider. Consult a health care provider before giving Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate) to patients under 2 years of age. Do not stop taking or giving Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate) without talking with your health care provider. Do not take or give any over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. Patients with other medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking or giving Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate). Do not take or give more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Contact your health care provider at once if you feel you have taken or given too much of Triaminic Cold & Allergy (pseudoephedrine/chlorpheniramine maleate). If a dose is missed, take or give it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised to by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, restart medication and contact your health care provider.
