Before using Vagisil (benzocaine/resorcinol), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition |
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Vagisil (benzocaine/resorcinol)?

Vagisil (benzocaine/resorcinol) is for external use only. Do not use Vagisil (benzocaine/resorcinol) in or around the eyes. DO not apply Vagisil (benzocaine/resorcinol) to large areas of the body. Use only for 7 days maximum. If symptoms persist beyond 7 days or return after discontinuing use of the product, consult your health care provider. |
What are the side effects of Vagisil (benzocaine/resorcinol)?

Most severe: Swelling; rash; fever.

Most common: Burning sensation, worsening of symptoms
|

Other: Irritation, redness

How should I take Vagisil (benzocaine/resorcinol)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Vagisil (benzocaine/resorcinol) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Wash hands apply Vagisil (benzocaine/resorcinol) to the affected area. Do not use Vagisil (benzocaine/resorcinol) for more than 7 days unless directed to do so by your health care provider or dentist. If the symptoms do not improve in 7 days, or if irritation, pain, or redness continues or worsens, or if swelling, rash, or fever develops, talk with your health care provider at once. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Vagisil (benzocaine/resorcinol). Do not take more medicine than is recommended unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider.
