Vancocin (vancomycin) is used to treat inflammation of the colon caused by certain bacteria or the use of Antibiotic. It should not be used to treat other infections.

Do not take Vancocin (vancomycin) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Vancocin (vancomycin)

Before using Vancocin (vancomycin), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you have impaired kidney function if you have hearing problems if you have any other medical condition if you are using other medicines like gentamycin, polymixin-B, bacitracin, cisplatin, cyclosporin, furoseamide and aspirin

For best results, take each dose of Vancocin (vancomycin) at evenly spaced intervals around the clock. This will ensure a constant level of Vancocin (vancomycin) medicine in your blood. Take Vancocin (vancomycin) for the full time prescribed. Do not stop taking Vancocin (vancomycin) without your doctor's approval.

Other:  Feeling of whirling motion; dizziness; ringing in the ears; rash; second infection; fever chills; nausea, pain at injection site.

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Vancocin (vancomycin) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the patient leaflet provided with Vancocin (vancomycin) and reread it each time you get your prescription refilled. Take Vancocin (vancomycin) exactly as prescribed. Contact your doctor at once if any of the following signs of an allergic reaction occur: Wheezing; difficulty breathing; hives; itching; flushing of the upper body; pain or muscle spasms in the chest and back. Long-term or repeated use of Vancocin (vancomycin) may cause a second infection. You may need to stop taking Vancocin (vancomycin) and start another medication to treat the second infection. Contact your doctor if signs of a second infection occurs. Continue use until all of the prescribed medicine has been taken, even if fever and other symptoms have disappeared. Failure to use all of Vancocin (vancomycin) may prevent complete elimination of bacteria, allowing the infection to return. If severe diarrhea, stomach cramps/pain or bloody stools occurs, contact your doctor at once. This could be a symptom of a serious side effect requiring instant medical attention. Do not treat diarrhea without talking with your doctor. If sudden dizziness or lightheadedness with or without rash over the face and body or hearing occurs, contact your doctor at once. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Lab tests may be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not stop taking Vancocin (vancomycin) without checking with your doctor. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Vancocin (vancomycin). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, restart medication and contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Store Vancocin (vancomycin) at controlled room temperature (between 59 and 86 degrees F). Protect from heat and direct light.
