Vaseretic (enalapril/HCTZ) is used to treat high blood pressure.

Do not take Vaseretic (enalapril/HCTZ) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Vaseretic (enalapril/HCTZ) or to sulfonamides you have a history of swelling related to the use of Vaseretic (enalapril/HCTZ) or similar medications you are unable to urinate

Before using Vaseretic (enalapril/HCTZ), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparations, or dietary supplements if you have congestive heart failure or other heart problems if you have lupus if you have high blood pressure if you have gout if you have liver or kidney disease if you have a history of allergy or asthma if you take lithium if you have diabetes if you have any other medical condition

When Vaseretic (enalapril/HCTZ) is used after the third month of pregnancy, it can cause injury or even death to the developing fetus. Stop taking Vaseretic (enalapril/HCTZ) as soon as possible if you become pregnant.

Other:  Stomach pain; pounding in the chest; vomiting; indigestion; constipation; gas; dry mouth; sleeplessness; nervousness; drowsiness; feeling of a whirling motion; joint pain; back pain; excessive sweating; decreased sex drive; ringing in the ears; urinary tract infection; lightheadedness; fainting; gout; abnormal skin sensations; itching; cough.

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Vaseretic (enalapril/HCTZ) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Vaseretic (enalapril/HCTZ) can be taken once or twice daily or as directed by your health care provider. Excessive sweating, dehydration, nausea, and vomiting can lead to a sudden drop in blood pressure. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms occur. Contact your health care provider at once if any of the following occurs: Swelling of the face, arms, legs, hands, eyes, lips, or tongue; difficulty swallowing or breathing. Contact your health care provider if you feel lightheadedness, especially during the first few days of starting Vaseretic (enalapril/HCTZ). If fainting occurs, stop taking Vaseretic (enalapril/HCTZ) and contact your health care provider. Contact your health care provider if you experience dryness of the mouth, thirst, weakness, lack of energy, drowsiness, restlessness, confusion, seizures, muscle pain or cramps, inability to urinate, fast heartbeat, or nausea and vomiting. Do not use salt substitutes unless advised by your health care provider. Black patients may be at increased risk for certain side effects. Contact your health care provider if you experience any kind of infection (fever, chills, sore throat) while taking Vaseretic (enalapril/HCTZ). Patients being treated for high blood pressure often feel tired or rundown for a few weeks after beginning therapy. Continue taking Vaseretic (enalapril/HCTZ) even though you may not feel quite "normal." Contact your doctor or pharmacist about any new symptoms. Diabetic patients -- Vaseretic (enalapril/HCTZ) can change blood sugar levels. Your doctor may need to change your dose of diabetes medication. Vaseretic (enalapril/HCTZ) may cause dizziness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Avoid drinking alcohol while you are taking Vaseretic (enalapril/HCTZ). Lab tests may be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not stop taking Vaseretic (enalapril/HCTZ) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Vaseretic (enalapril/HCTZ). Do not take more medication than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any dietary preparations or herbal supplements. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.

Store Vaseretic (enalapril/HCTZ) at or below 86 degrees F. Keep container tightly closed. Protect from moisture.
