What is Vicks Vaporub (menthol) used for? |
Vicks Vaporub (menthol) is used for short-term relief of stuffy nose and cough due to colds in children 2 years of age and older. Vicks Vaporub (menthol) is also used to relieve minor muscle aches and pains.

Do not use Vicks Vaporub (menthol) if you/your child is allergic to any ingredient in Vicks Vaporub (menthol), you have skin infection, if you have broken and irritated skin |

How should I take Vicks Vaporub (menthol)?
|
How much medicine you give and how often it is given depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Vicks Vaporub (menthol) you are giving, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the labeling information provided with Vicks Vaporub (menthol). Vicks Vaporub (menthol) is for external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes. Do not place in mouth or nostrils. Rub a thick layer of Vicks Vaporub (menthol) on the throat and chest or as directed by your health care provider and cover the areas with a warm, dry cloth if desired. Keep clothing loose to allow vapors to rise enough to reach the nose and mouth. Repeat application up to 3 times daily, especially at bedtime, or as directed by your health care provider. Stop using Vicks Vaporub (menthol) and contact your child's health care provider if redness or soreness of the skin occurs. If cough continues for more than 1 week or is accompanied by a fever, rash, or persistent headache contact your child's health care provider. A cough that doesn't go away could be a sign of a serious condition. Do not use Vicks Vaporub (menthol) for persistent or chronic cough that is due to smoking or breathing problems, such as asthma, or emphysema, or if the cough produces excessive mucus unless directed by a health care provider. Do not give any over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. Parents of children with other medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before giving Vicks Vaporub (menthol). Do not give more medicine than recommended unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Contact your health care provider at once if you feel you have given too much of Vicks Vaporub (menthol).

Store Vicks Vaporub (menthol) at controlled room temperature (59 to 86 degrees F). Close cap tightly after use. |
