Xylocaine Ointment (lidocaine) is applied topically to temporarily relieve pain associated with minor cuts and skin scrapes, minor burns (including sunburn), minor skin irritation, and insect bites.

Do not use Xylocaine Ointment (lidocaine) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Xylocaine Ointment (lidocaine) or to similar medications (eg, certain local anesthetics)

Before using Xylocaine Ointment (lidocaine), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you have a history of allergies to other medicines if you have severe liver disease if you have any other medical condition

Xylocaine Ointment (lidocaine) is for external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes. If condition worsens, or if symptoms persist for more than 7 days, or clear up and occur again within a few days, discontinue use of this product and consult a doctor. Do not use in large quantities, particularly over raw surfaces or blistered areas. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children. In case of accidental ingestion, seek professional assistance or contact a poison control center immediately.For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes and mouth. If condition persists or infection, rash or irritation develops, discontinue use and consult a physician. Do not use in large quantities, particularly over raw surfaces or blistered areas. Not for deep or puncture wounds or serious burns. Not for prolonged use. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children. In case of accidental ingestion seek professional assistance or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.

Other:  Lightheadedness; nervousness; fear; exaggerated sense of well-being; confusion; dizziness; drowsiness; ringing in the ears; blurred or double vision; vomiting; sensations of heat, cold, or numbness; twitching; tremor.

How much medicine you use and how often you use it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount andperor frequency of Xylocaine Ointment (lidocaine) you are using, talk with your health care provider. Xylocaine Ointment (lidocaine) is for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. If contact with the eyes occurs, wash out the eye at once with water or saline and protect it until the numbness is gone. Wash your hands before and after applying. Do not apply Xylocaine Ointment (lidocaine) to irritated skin. If excessive irritation occurs, stop using Xylocaine Ointment (lidocaine). Use caution when applying Xylocaine Ointment (lidocaine) over large areas and leaving it on for more than 2 hours. Applying Xylocaine Ointment (lidocaine) to larger areas or for longer times than recommended can cause serious side effects. Xylocaine Ointment (lidocaine) may cause a numbing effect at the application site. Do not scratch, rub, or expose the area to extreme hot or cold temperatures until the numbness is gone. If condition worsens or if symptoms continue unchanged for more than 7 days or clear up and return within a few days, stop using Xylocaine Ointment (lidocaine) and talk with your doctor. When giving Xylocaine Ointment (lidocaine) to young children, be sure to closely watch the child to prevent accidental swallowing of Xylocaine Ointment (lidocaine). Xylocaine Ointment (lidocaine) may cause diziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Patients with other medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Xylocaine Ointment (lidocaine). Do not apply more medicine than recommended unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements.

Store Xylocaine Ointment (lidocaine) between 59 and 86 degrees F. Keep the tube tightly capped between applications.
