What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Zaditor (ketotifen)?

Zaditor (ketotifen) may cause mild stinging or burning when you first put it in your eye. Contact your doctor if the stinging continues. Do not use Zaditor (ketotifen) for prolonged periods of time. Do not use Zaditor (ketotifen) for future eye problems without first checking with your doctor. Do not wear soft contact lenses while using Zaditor (ketotifen). |

Most severe:ÿ Allergic reaction (rash; hives; swelling).
|
|
Most common:ÿ Burning; headache; runny nose; stinging; infection of the mucous membrane around the eye; eye discharge; dry eyes; eye pain; eyelid disorder; itching; inflammation of the cornea; tearing disorder; tearing; sensitivity to light; flu syndrome; sore throat.

Other: Rash or pain and swelling around the eye.
|
How should I take Zaditor (ketotifen)?
|
How much medicine you use and how often you use it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Zaditor (ketotifen) you are using, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the information provided with Zaditor (ketotifen) and reread it each time you get this prescription refilled. Use Zaditor (ketotifen) exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. Zaditor (ketotifen) is to be applied into the eye. Do not inject it or take it by mouth. Do not allow the dropper tip to touch the eyelids or the surrounding areas as it may contaminate the solution. Do not wear contact lenses if your eye is red. Do not use Zaditor (ketotifen) to treat irritation caused by contact lenses. If you wear soft contact lenses and your eyes are not red, wait at least 10 minutes after placing Zaditor (ketotifen) into the eye before putting your contact lenses back into your eyes. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before using Zaditor (ketotifen). Do not stop using Zaditor (ketotifen) without checking with your health care provider. Do not use more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Contact your health care provider at once if you feel you have used too much of Zaditor (ketotifen). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, use it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
