What are the side effects of Zanaflex (tizanidine HCl)?

Most severe: Yellowing of the skin or eyes; hallucinations; increased muscle spasm; severe allergic reaction.
|
|
Most common: Dry mouth; drowsiness; sedation; weakness; fatigue; tiredness; dizziness; slow heartbeat; urinary tract infection; constipation.
|
|
Other: Vomiting; speech disorder; blurred vision; frequent urination; flu symptoms; difficulty moving; nervousness; sore throat; runny nose.

How should I take Zanaflex (tizanidine HCl)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Zanaflex (tizanidine HCl) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Zanaflex (tizanidine HCl) can be taken with or without food. Do not stop taking Zanaflex (tizanidine HCl) or change the dose without checking with your health care provider. This could have serious adverse effects. If lightheadedness, dizziness, fainting, dry mouth, drowsiness or weakness occurs while taking Zanaflex (tizanidine HCl), contact your health care provider immediately. Zanaflex (tizanidine HCl) may cause dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting, especially when rising or standing. If these symptoms should occur, sit or lie down and contact your health care provider. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination or physical dexterity. Avoid alcohol and other medicines that may cause drowsiness (such as benzodiazepines, baclofen) while you are taking Zanaflex (tizanidine HCl). Inform your health care provider if you are taking an oral contraceptive. Your health care provider may have to adjust the dose of Zanaflex (tizanidine HCl). Lab tests or exams may be required to monitor treatment. Be sure to keep appointments. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Zanaflex (tizanidine HCl). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
