Young People and Heart Disease

Young men and women need to be aware that they too are at risk of heart disease. A new study indicates that young men and women are often under diagnosed for heart disease. In fact, even though rates of high cholesterol among the women and younger men were similar to the rate in older men, those two groups of patients were nearly half as likely (10 percent vs. 19 percent) to be taking cholesterol-lowering drugs prior to their heart attack and were much less likely to be on aspirin for high blood pressure and other combination therapy.

Health Concern over BPA Exposure

Bisphenol A, also known as BPA, is an industrial chemical that is used in the manufacturing of many products that we use every day. This chemical is most commonly found in hard plastics, including food storage containers, plastic bottles, dental sealants, toys and the linings of food cans. Recent concern has arisen over the effects of prolonged exposure to BPA, after a cross-sectional study revealed that those with high BPA exposure have an increased the risk of heart disease and diabetes, while another study links BPA to liver damage and hormonal interference leading to obesity.

Food Addiction Very Serious In America

When someone mentions an addict most of us will probably imagine a junky shooting up in some dark corner of town, but what about those that are addicted to food? Yes food can become quite addictive and certain diets may actually affect your brain in a way that is similar to that of many hardcore drugs.

High fat, high calorie junk foods can become very addictive, and this not only leads to mental problems, but it is also a reason for the rising obesity rate in the States. Along with the unbelievably high rates of obesity, Americans are becoming more likely to develop diabetes, heart disease, and strokes.

A study on rats showed that the high fat, high calorie diet showed similar signs drugs like heroin. These foods satisfy the pleasure center in the brain and after awhile of eating this type of diet, eating becomes compulsive. In fact, even electric shocks were unable to stop their eating. The addiction had developed to the point where they would keep eating despite obvious pain as the joy they obtained from eating would outweigh the pain of the shocks.

While I don’t think that Americans are going to have as much difficulty with food addiction that rats do, I do think that many Americans will not only gain a significant amount of weight and endanger their health; I believe that once that weight is put on, it will be more difficult to lose that weight than ever before.

A recent discovery by the research team at Oxford found that junk in the trunk is good for the heart and can lengthen your life. Having a large abdomen and stomach makes people more prone to heart disease, but people with small tummies and large bottoms and thighs experience the opposite effect. The exact measurements of the perfect thighs are anything close to, but slightly exceeding 23.6 inches.

Too much fat is a concern. When there is too much fat around the hips and thighs it may cause Cushing’s syndrome, diabetes, high blood pressure, or mood swings. A good body type is a pear shape. Pear-shaped people have lower inflammatory cytokine levels. This means that their body responds to infections which may cause diabetes, insulin resistance, or heart disease positively, and works to prevent the infections. An apple shaped body is the worst shape to have, as it raises both the risk of heart disease and diabetes.

Fat on the thighs and bottom stores fatty acids. Fat on the legs also keeps people from overwhelming the body when they overeat. Leg-fat produces leptin, which affects metabolism positively. It is also been proven that having not enough fat in your backside and thighs can cause metabolic problems. It is harder to lose or gain weight around that thighs and backside. Hip fat also promotes better blood sugar control (linked to avoiding diabetes) and fat burning.

An ideal person would have fat thighs, and a slim tummy, which is unfortunately very rare and difficult. Normally you get fat thighs and a fat tummy, not one or the other.

Cancer, A Winning Battle

Cancer is expected to overtake heart disease as the leading cause for death in 2010, but are these kind of statistics misleading? Well to put it simply, yes. The rate of deaths caused by cancer have been decreasing steadily for many years now. Breakthrough In Stem Cell Research Shows Tremendous Promise

Canadian researches have now discovered isolated stem cells inside umbilical cords. They have also conducted experiments that have shown the regenerative abilities that these cells could be used for.

For those that do not know, stem cells are certain cells that are able to change and become any cell in the body. However, while we age the supply of stem cells found within our bodies starts to decrease quite significantly.

These new stem cells may be one of the greatest discoveries of all human history. With stem cells, we could be able to heal every single type of injury possible. New Polypill May Cut Heart Disease Risk in Half According to Study

Researchers have found that a combination of four generic drugs along with house hold aspirin can half the risk of heart disease in middle-aged people.

The multi pill combination or ‘polypill‘ appears to be a cheap and affective way to address heart disease according to the American College of Cardiology. Essentially, the pill combines cholesterol lowering medicine (referred to as a statin) house hold aspirin, and three other blood pressure drugs.

This may be considered a monumental breakthrough considering heart disease is the primary cause of death globally. According to the World Health Organization, heart disease accounts for one in three deaths each year world wide.
