What is Cerumenex used for?
This medicine is used to remove ear wax from the ear before hearing tests, or ear examinations or treatments.
When should Cerumenex not be taken?
Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine you have a puncture in the eardrum you have a middle ear infection
What precautions should I follow when taking Cerumenex?
Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Cerumenex?
Do not to exceed a 15 to 20 minute exposure of the ear canal to this medication. Do not use the drops more frequently than prescribed. If an untoward reaction occurs, the drops should be discontinued.
What are the side effects of Cerumenex?
Most severe: Severe redness and itching.
Most common: Mild redness and itching.
Other: Skin sores; burning and pain at the application site; skin rash.
How should I take Cerumenex?
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. This medicine is only for external use in the ear. Fill the ear with this medicine with the head tilted at a 45 degree angle. Avoid placing the tip of the applicator into the ear canal. Insert cotton plug into ear and allow it to remain for 15 to 30 minutes. Do not allow this medicine to stay in the ear for more than 30 minutes. Gently flush the ear with lukewarm water using a soft rubber syringe. Do not use excessive pressure. This medicine may be used a second time if necessary. Further use should only occur under the direction of a health care provider. Do not expose the skin outside the ear to this medicine. If exposure occurs, wash and rinse the affected area completely with soap and water. If irritation develops, stop using this medicine. Do not place the applicator tip in the ear canal. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medicine. Do not apply any other over-the-counter or prescription medications for the ear without talking with your health care provider.
How should Cerumenex be stored?
Store at controlled room temperature (59 to 86 degrees F).
