What is Calan used for?

This medicine is used to manage high blood pressure, chest pain and other heart problems.

When should Calan not be taken?

Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Calan?

Take this medicine regularly to show its optimum effect. This medicine may cause your blood pressure to become too low. If you experience dizziness or light-headedness, notify your doctor.

What are the side effects of Calan?

Most severe:  Chest pain, low blood pressure, nausea, rash, shortness of breath, slow heartbeat, upper respiratory infection

Most common:  Constipation; dizziness; nausea; headache, blurred vision, breast development in males, bruising, chest pain, confusion, diarrhea, difficulty sleeping, drowsiness, dry mouth, excessive milk secretion, fainting, fatigue, fever and rash, flushing, hair loss, heart attack, hives, impotence, increased urination, indigestion, intestinal blockage, joint pain, light-headedness upon standing up, limping, loss of balance, muscle cramps, pounding heartbeat, rash, ringing in the ears, shakiness, skin peeling, sleepiness, spotty menstruation, sweating, tingling or pins and needles, upset stomach.

Other:  General body discomfort; fever; swelling; fatigue; difficulty breathing; rash; flushing.

How should I take Calan?

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. For chest pain, do not stop taking this medication suddenly. If medication is to be discontinued, it should be done gradually. Patients being treated for high blood pressure often feel tired or rundown for a few weeks after starting this medication. Continue to take your medication even though you may not feel quite "normal." Contact your health care provider or pharmacist about any new symptoms. Dizziness or lightheadedness can occur when rising too quickly form a seated or lying position. If this occurs, sit or lie down and avoid sudden changes in posture. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination or physical dexterity. Lab tests may be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your doctor. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medication. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

How should Calan be stored?

Store Tablet between 59 to 77 degrees F. Protect from light.
