This medication is used as an aid to stop smoking.

When should Nicoderm not be taken?

Do not take this medicine if you continue to smoke or chew tobacco, use snuff, use a nicotine patch or other nicotine-containing products you are allergic to the adhesive tape

What precautions should I follow when taking Nicoderm?

Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition if you are under 18 years of age

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Nicoderm?

Careful consideration should be given when using this medicine in people with heart disease, peptic ulcer, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, renal and hepatic insufficiency. If these people continue to smoke while using this medicine, excessive nicotine levels could be produced that can exacerbate pre-existing diseases and can cause serious adverse reactions

What are the side effects of Nicoderm?

Most severe:  Nausea; vomiting; dizziness; weakness.

Most common:  Skin redness; rash; swelling; pounding in the chest.

Other: Abnormal dreaming, allergic reactions, back pain, chest pain, constipation, cough, diarrhea, drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, impaired concentration, indigestion, inflammation of sinuses, menstrual irregularities, numb­ness, pain, pins and needles sensation, rash, sleeplessness, sore throat, stomach pain, sweating, taste changes, tingling, vomiting, weakness

How should I take Nicoderm?

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. This medicine is to help in the stopping of smoking by reducing the withdrawal symptoms of nicotine. Stop smoking or using any tobacco products completely when you begin using this medicine even when you are not wearing the patch. Remove the patch at bedtime to avoid having vivid dreams or other sleep disturbances. Stop using this medicine if skin redness caused by the patch does not go away after 4 days. Apply the patch at the same time every day. Place the patch in a different area every day. Place the patch on a healthy, clean, dry and hairless piece of skin on the upper arm or hip. Press firmly and count to 10 when applying to ensure good adhesion. Do not keep on the skin for longer than 16 hours. The patch can get wet as long as it is firmly in place. You may need to seek additional medical help to stop smoking. The stopping of smoking does not happen overnight. The stopping of smoking does not happen overnight. Stop using this medicine if any of the following occurs: Mouth, teeth, or jaw problems; pounding in the chest; nausea; vomiting; dizziness; weakness. This medicine may cause dizziness; patients should observe caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. This product should be used as a larger part of a program to help you quit smoking. If you need help finding a program, talk with your health care provider. Keep this medicine out of the reach of children and pets. Even used patches have enough nicotine to poison children and pets. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medicine. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medicines without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.

How should Nicoderm be stored?

Store patch at room temperature. Apply immediately upon removal from pouch, and do not store after the pouch has been opened.
