What is Aciphex/Rabeprazole used for?

This medicine is used short-term (4 to 8 weeks) in adults to treat active ulcers of the duodenum, and to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD, or stomach contents bubbling back into the food pipe). It is also used to maintain and heal GERD, to treat heartburn symptoms associated with GERD, and for the long-term treatment of conditions that cause increased production of acid by the stomach, including Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

What precautions should I follow when taking Aciphex/Rabeprazole?

Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription medicine (especially warfarin), nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you have severe liver problems if you have any other medical condition

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Aciphex/Rabeprazole?

This medicine is not recommended for use in children.

What are the side effects of Aciphex/Rabeprazole?

Most severe:ÿ Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue).

Most common:ÿ Headache.

Other:ÿ Abnormal skin sensations; tiredness; neck pain; sensitivity to sunlight.

How should I take Aciphex/Rabeprazole?

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the information provided with this medicine and reread it each time you get this prescription refilled. Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. This medicine may be taken with or without food. Swallow Tablet whole. Do not chew, crush, or split the Tablet. If you have difficulty swallowing the Tablet, consult your doctor or pharmacist for other suggestions on how to take the medicine. This medicine may cause sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun or other ultraviolet light (eg, tanning beds). Use sunscreens and wear protective clothing until tolerance is determined. Lab tests may be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medicine. Do not stop or change the amount of medicine you are taking unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, restart medicine and advise your health care provider at your next appointment.
