What is Anturane/Sulfinpyrazone used for?

This medicine helps to reduce uric acid in the blood and is prescribed for the treatment of gout

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any component present in this medicine.

What precautions should I follow when taking Anturane/Sulfinpyrazone?

Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you are taking blood thinners if you have stomach problems if you have peptic ulcers if you have any other medical condition like liver or kidney function impairment or heart problem

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Anturane/Sulfinpyrazone?

Do not stop taking this medicine except on the advice of your prescriber or health care professional. It may take several months before you see the full effect of this medicine. Avoid alcoholic drinks while taking this medicine

What are the side effects of Anturane/Sulfinpyrazone?

Most severe: Blood in urine or stool, or black tarry stools, difficulty breathing, wheezing or shortness of breath, fever, chills or sore throat, lower back or side pain, pain or difficulty passing urine, skin rash and itching (hives), swelling of the feet, ankles, face or lips, unusual bleeding or bruising, unusual weakness or tiredness.

Most common: Heartburn, nausea, vomoting, painful, red, or swollen joints, upset stomach.

How should I take Anturane/Sulfinpyrazone?

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day while taking this medicine. Do not take aspirin or aspirin-containing products while taking sulfinpyrazone, unless approved by your health care provider. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before taking any nonprescription medicines to be sure they do not contain aspirin or aspirin-like ingredients, since these medicines can make sulfinpyrazone less effective. This will help to prevent kidney stones from forming and other problems caused by an increased amount of uric acid in the kidneys. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medicine. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
