What is Hydrochlorothiazide/Hctz used for?
This medicine is for removal of extra water from the body because of high blood pressure or swelling. It may be taken for other reasons.

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine or similar medications you have urination problems
What precautions should I follow when taking Hydrochlorothiazide/Hctz?
Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition, such as kidney or liver disease
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Hydrochlorothiazide/Hctz?
Use this medicine with caution in patients with impaired hepatic function or progressive liver disease since minor alterations of fluid and electrolyte balance or of serum ammonia may precipitate hepatic coma.
What are the side effects of Hydrochlorothiazide/Hctz?
Most severe: Gout; allergic reactions; kidney failure; inability to keep an erection in males.
Most common: Weakness; blood disorders; uncontrolled muscle movement; dizziness; redness of the skin; blurred vision.
Other: Muscle spasm, weakness, restlessness, hyperglycemia, glycosuria, transient hyperlipidemia, hyperuricemia, transient blurred vision.
How should I take Hydrochlorothiazide/Hctz?
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount andperor frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Use with caution in patients with liver and kidney disease. This medicine may be used with other blood pressure medications. This medicine may increase urination. Do not take this medicine at night. This medicine may cause dizziness. Use caution while performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical skill. Do not stop taking this medication without checking with your doctor. Do not take more medication than is prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
