What is Proamatine/Midodrine used for?

This medicine is to used treat low blood pressure. It may be used in combination with other medicines.

Store at room temperature(77 degrees F). Keep tightly closed.

When should Proamatine/Midodrine not be taken?

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine you have experienced second or third-degree heart block you have experienced heart failure or any other heart problems, acute renal disease, urinary retention, pheochromocytoma, thyrotoxicosis or known hypersensitivity to this medicine.

What precautions should I follow when taking Proamatine/Midodrine?

Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition. This medicine should be used with caution in patients with urinary tract outflow obstruction, neurogenic bladder or similar conditions, since this medicine is eliminated by the kidneys and accumulation may occur in such patients.

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Proamatine/Midodrine?

This medicine should be used with caution as it may cause supine hypertension (symptoms may include cardiac awareness, pounding in the ears, headache, blurred vision) and slow pulse and heart beat (bradycardia). This medicine should not be administered in the presence of tachyarrhythmias or ventricular fibrillation.

What are the side effects of Proamatine/Midodrine?

Most severe:  Heart failure; severe allergic reaction, palpitation, pounding in the ears, headache, blurred vision.

Most common:  Dizziness; sleepiness; headache; constipation; diarrhea; indigestion; gas; nausea; breathing difficulty; frequent urination.

Other: Urinary retention (e.g. hesitency in starting urination, frequency of urination)

How should I take Proamatine/Midodrine?

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Severe high blood pressure can occur if certain nasal decongestants are taken with this medicine. This medicine may produce dizziness or drowsiness; patients should observe caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Do not stop taking this medication without checking with your doctor. Do not take more medication than is prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medication. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
