What is Timolol/Timolol used for?

This medicine is used to treat high blood pressure. It may also be used to prevent a second heart attack in patients who have survived a recent heart attack and are in stable condition, and to prevent migraines. This medicine may be used alone or with other medicine to treat high blood pressure.

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine or similar medicines you have asthma or a history of asthma you have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease you have severe slow heartbeat you have second- and third-degree heart block you have heart failure you have heart shock

What precautions should I follow when taking Timolol/Timolol?

Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you will be having surgery if you have an overactive thyroid if you have any other medical condition (eg, kidney or liver problems)

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Timolol/Timolol?

An increase in chest pain and in some cases, a heart attack can occur in patients who suddenly stop taking this medicine. Do not interrupt or stop taking this medicine without the advice of your health care provider.

What are the side effects of Timolol/Timolol?

Most severe:  Chest pain; irregular heart rhythms; breathing problems.

Most common:  Slow heartbeat; fatigue/tiredness; dizziness.

Other:  Headache; weakness; fainting; swelling; upset stomach; nausea; itching; feeling of a whirling motion; abnormal skin sensations; decreased sex drive; eye irritation; ringing in the ears.

How should I take Timolol/Timolol?

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not stop taking this medication without checking with your doctor. Tell your doctor if you are using this medication and plan to have surgery. You may have to temporarily stop using this medicine. This medicine can hide signs of low blood sugar and change blood sugar levels. Your doctor may need to change your dose of diabetes medicine. This medicine may cause dizziness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Patients being treated for high blood pressure often feel tired or rundown for a few weeks after beginning therapy. Continue taking your medicine even though you may not feel quite "normal". Contact your health care provider about any new symptoms. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medicine. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medicines without talking with your doctor. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
