What is Visken/Pindolol used for?

This medicine is used for the management of high blood pressure. It may be used alone or in combination with other high blood pressure medications.

Store Tablet below 86 degrees F in tight, light-resistant container.

When should Visken/Pindolol not be taken?

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine you have asthma or other breathing problems (eg, chronic bronchitis, emphysema) you have or have had severe heart problems

What precautions should I follow when taking Visken/Pindolol?

Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition, such as diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or liver problems if you will be having surgery

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Visken/Pindolol?

This medicine should be administered with caution to patients with spontaneous hypoglycemia, diabetes and to those who have a history of heart failure.

What are the side effects of Visken/Pindolol?

Most severe: Congestive heart failure, severe slowing of pulse, fainting, lightheadedness and postural hypotension, lengthening of PR interval, second degree AV block, palpitation, chest pains, cold extremities, Raynaud's phenomenon, claudication, hot flushes, arrhythmia, coronary insufficiency.

Most common:  Sleeplessness; swelling of the arms and legs; muscle pain; chest pain; upset stomach; strange dreams; dizziness; fatigue; nervousness; joint pain; nausea; weakness.

Other:  Depression; rash; fever with sore throat; hair loss.

How should I take Visken/Pindolol?

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Contact your health care provider if you experience any problems while taking this medicine. A response to this medicine usually occurs within the first week of taking this medicine. Do not stop this medicine suddenly. It could cause a worsening of disease including worse angina (chest pain), irregular heartbeats and increase risk of heart attack and death. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your health care provider. Diabetes patients - This medicine can mask signs of low blood sugar and change blood sugar levels. It may be necessary for your health care provider to change your dose of diabetic medications. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring mental alertness, coordination and dexterity. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medicine. Do not take more medicine than is prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
