Description

Indications

This medication is prescribed for short-term use in individuals diagnosed with hemophilia, a specific bleeding disorder, in order to prevent and mitigate bleeding resulting from tooth extraction. It is also employed in individuals with other high-risk bleeding conditions to manage bleeding in various scenarios, including post-surgery or following an injury, during severe nosebleeds, or in cases of heavy menstrual bleeding.

The mechanism of action of tranexamic acid involves facilitating normal blood clotting, thereby effectively preventing and arresting prolonged bleeding. This medication falls within the classification of anti-fibrinolytic drugs.

Uses and Dosage

Tranexamic acid is administered orally in the form of tablets. Typically, it is taken three times a day, either with or without food, for a maximum duration of five days during the monthly menstrual cycle.

Initiate the intake of this medication at the onset of each menstrual period and refrain from using it outside of this timeframe. Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage and refrain from taking tranexamic acid tablets for more than five days per menstrual cycle or exceeding six tablets within a 24-hour period.

The tablets should be swallowed whole and should not be split, chewed, or crushed.

Tranexamic acid is administered to reduce the volume of blood loss during menstruation but does not halt menstrual bleeding altogether. If your bleeding does not show signs of improvement or worsens during treatment, contact your doctor.
