Its primary function is to expedite the healing process of the sores and alleviate associated symptoms, including tingling, pain, burning, and itching. Penciclovir falls within the category of antiviral medications, effectively inhibiting the proliferation of the virus responsible for the condition.
Uses and Dosage
To effectively utilize this medication, commence treatment promptly upon observing the initial signs of infection, which may include tingling, burning, redness, or the presence of sores. Follow the application instructions provided by your doctor, typically applying the cream every 2 hours for a duration of 4 days, excluding sleep hours.
Prior to applying this medication, ensure thorough hand washing with soap and water. Prepare the affected areas by cleaning and drying them before administering the medication. Apply a thin layer of penciclovir cream, ensuring complete coverage over the cold sore area or the region experiencing tingling, itching, redness, or swelling. Gently rub the cream into the skin.
Restrict the application of this medication to the skin only. Avoid applying it in or near the eyes, as it may cause irritation. In case of accidental contact with the eyes, promptly flush them with ample water. Refrain from applying the medication inside the mouth or nose.
The dosage of this medication should be determined based on your specific medical condition and response to treatment. Adhere to the prescribed dosage and duration without exceeding it.
For optimal results, utilize this medication consistently to derive maximum benefits. Its effectiveness is enhanced when a constant level of drug absorption is maintained through evenly spaced intervals. To aid in remembrance, administer the medication at the same times each day.
Cold sores (herpes) are easily transmissible. Penciclovir cream does not prevent the spread of herpes. During an outbreak, avoid close physical contact with others, such as kissing, until the cold sores have completely healed. Additionally, endeavor to refrain from touching the cold sore, and if contact does occur, promptly wash your hands.
If your condition persists or worsens after completing the prescribed treatment, inform your doctor accordingly.

How long does it take Denavir Cream to work?
Denavir starts to work as soon as you apply it to your cold sore, but don’t expect to see the main effects of this medication very quickly. Typically, Denavir only makes the cold sores (and the pain caused by the sores) go away half a day faster.
