Description

Indications

Amlodipine, valsartan, and hydrochlorothiazide is a combined medication regimen used for the treatment of hypertension, or high blood pressure. Hypertension imposes an increased workload on the heart and arteries, which, if sustained over an extended period, can impair their proper functioning. This may result in damage to the blood vessels in vital organs such as the brain, heart, and kidneys, leading to conditions such as heart failure or kidney failure.

Amlodipine functions as a calcium channel blocker (CCB), exerting its effects by modulating the movement of calcium into the cells of the heart and blood vessels. Valsartan, on the other hand, operates as an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) by blocking a substance within the body that constricts blood vessels. Hydrochlorothiazide, classified as a thiazide diuretic (water pill), aids in reducing water retention by enhancing urine flow. This diuretic action contributes to lowering blood pressure levels.

Uses and Dosage

Follow your doctor’s instructions when taking this medication orally, either with or without food. Typically, it is taken once daily. If you consume this medication too close to your bedtime, you may experience the need to wake up during the night to urinate. Take this medication at least 4 hours before your intended bedtime.

The appropriate dosage of this medication will depend on your medical condition and how you respond to the treatment.

For optimal results, take this medication consistently at the same time each day. This will help you remember to take it regularly. It may take up to 2 weeks before you experience the full benefits of this product.

Continue taking this medication even if you feel well, as many individuals with high blood pressure do not exhibit symptoms of illness.

If you are also taking specific medications to lower your cholesterol, such as bile acid-binding resins like cholestyramine or colestipol, make sure to take amlodipine/valsartan/hydrochlorothiazide at least 4 hours before or 4 to 6 hours after these cholesterol-lowering medications.

Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens, such as if your blood pressure readings remain elevated or increase.

Caution

Prior to initiating treatment with this product, disclose any known allergies to amlodipine, valsartan, or any other substances to your healthcare provider or pharmacist. Inactive ingredients present in this product may trigger allergic reactions or other adverse effects.

Before commencing the use of this medication, inform your doctor or pharmacist about your complete medical history, particularly if you have a history of liver disease, aortic stenosis (a specific heart valve condition), dehydration, or elevated levels of potassium in your blood.

The consumption of this drug may induce dizziness. Consumption of alcohol or marijuana can exacerbate this dizziness. Refrain from driving, operating machinery, or engaging in activities that require alertness until you can safely do so.

Excessive sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting may lead to feelings of lightheadedness. Notify your doctor if you experience prolonged episodes of diarrhea or vomiting.

This product has the potential to increase potassium levels in your body. Prior to using potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium, seek guidance from your doctor or pharmacist.
