Description

Indications

Trandolapril and verapamil are medications utilized for the treatment of hypertension, which can decrease the risk of strokes, heart attacks, and kidney complications. Trandolapril belongs to the ACE inhibitor drug class, while verapamil belongs to the calcium channel blocker drug class. Both drugs function by relaxing blood vessels, which enables blood to flow more smoothly. Additionally, verapamil may decrease heart rate.

Uses and Dosage

Follow your doctor’s instructions and take this medication orally with food, usually once or twice a day.

Swallow the tablets whole and avoid crushing or chewing them, as doing so may cause the drug to release too quickly, increasing the likelihood of side effects.

Your dosage will depend on your medical condition and response to treatment. Take this medication consistently at the same time(s) each day to maximize its benefits.

Even if you feel well, continue taking it, as most individuals with high blood pressure do not experience symptoms.

Do not abruptly discontinue this medication without consulting your doctor, as certain conditions may worsen. Your dosage may need to be gradually decreased.

It may take a few weeks before you notice the medication’s full effects. If your condition does not improve or worsens, such as your blood pressure readings remaining high or increasing, inform your doctor.

Before using this medication, inform your doctor or pharmacist about your medical history, especially if you have certain heart rhythm problems, certain heart issues (such as heart failure, aortic stenosis), specific muscle/nerve disorders (myasthenia gravis, muscular dystrophy), history of angioedema, kidney disease, liver disease, high levels of potassium in the blood, or have undergone blood filtering procedures.

This drug may cause dizziness. Drinking alcohol or using marijuana can increase dizziness. Do not operate machinery, drive or engage in activities requiring alertness until it is safe to do so.

This product may increase potassium levels in the body. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium.

Older adults may be more susceptible to side effects, such as dizziness, elevated potassium levels, constipation, swelling of the ankles/feet, and changes in urine output.

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Trandolapril/verapamil use during pregnancy may harm the fetus. If you become pregnant, speak with your doctor immediately about the medication’s risks and benefits.
