Description

Indications

Cefprozil belongs to the class of cephalosporin antibiotics, and is primarily indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections including bronchitis, skin infections, ear infections, sinusitis, throat infections, and tonsillitis. The therapeutic mechanism of cefprozil involves inhibiting the growth and proliferation of susceptible bacteria.

Antibiotics, including cefprozil, are ineffective against viral infections such as colds or flu. The inappropriate use of antibiotics can contribute to the development of antibiotic resistance, which can result in difficulties in treating infections in the future.

Uses and Dosage

To ensure optimal therapeutic benefit, adhere to the instructions provided by your healthcare provider while taking this medication.

Typically, this medication is taken orally once or twice a day, as prescribed by the physician. In case of stomach upset, the medication may be taken with food. Dosage is determined based on individual medical condition and response to the therapy. For children, the dose is also dependent on their body weight.

For optimal results, this antibiotic should be taken at evenly spaced intervals. To facilitate consistent dosing, take this medication at the same time(s) every day.

Complete the full course of treatment, even if symptoms abate after a few days. Discontinuing the medication prematurely may permit bacterial growth, which could result in a relapse of the infection.

If symptoms persist or worsen, inform your healthcare provider.

Before initiating treatment with cefprozil, inform your physician or pharmacist of any known allergy to cefprozil, penicillins, cephalosporin antibiotics, or any other allergies you may have. This medication may contain inactive ingredients that can cause allergic reactions or other complications.

Prior to using this medication, discuss your medical history with your healthcare provider, particularly if you have a history of kidney disease or intestinal disease (colitis).

Cefprozil may cause dizziness. The consumption of alcohol or marijuana may increase the risk of dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or engage in activities requiring alertness until you are confident that it is safe to do so.

Inform your healthcare professional that you are using cefprozil prior to receiving any immunizations or vaccinations, as this medication may impair the effectiveness of live bacterial vaccines (such as the typhoid vaccine).

Use of this drug in children is cautioned because they may be more susceptible to its effects, particularly the development of rash.
