Description

Indications

Demeclocycline is utilized for the treatment of bacterial infections, encompassing pneumonia and various respiratory tract infections. It is also employed for managing specific skin, eye, lymphatic, intestinal, genital, and urinary system infections. Additionally, demeclocycline addresses infections transmitted by ticks, lice, mites, and infected animals. In cases where penicillin cannot be administered, demeclocycline is an alternative for treating certain forms of food poisoning and anthrax. Classified as a member of tetracycline antibiotics, demeclocycline functions by impeding the growth and proliferation of bacteria.

Uses and Dosage

Take demeclocycline orally, 2 to 4 times daily. For optimal efficacy, consume the medication on an empty stomach, either at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Each dose should be accompanied by a full glass of water (8 ounces or 240 milliliters), unless otherwise directed by your doctor. After taking the drug, refrain from lying down for at least 10 minutes. Do not take demeclocycline immediately before bedtime.

In the event of stomach discomfort, consult your doctor to determine if taking the medication with food is permissible.

Take this medication at least 2 to 3 hours prior to or after any other medications containing magnesium, aluminum, or calcium. Dairy products (such as milk, yogurt), calcium-enriched juice, sucralfate, bismuth subsalicylate, iron, and zinc also fall under this category. These substances bind with demeclocycline, hindering its complete absorption.

The prescribed dosage is determined based on your medical condition and response to treatment. For children, the dosage may also be weight-dependent.

To achieve the best outcome, administer this antibiotic at regular intervals throughout the day. To help with compliance, take this medication at the same time(s) every day.

If you are using this medication to treat an infection, continue taking it until the full prescribed amount is completed, even if symptoms improve within a few days. Ceasing the medication prematurely may result in a relapse of the infection.

Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.
