Indications
Efinaconazole topical solution is a medication employed in the treatment of fungal toenail infections, which may manifest as nail discoloration, splitting, or pain. This solution belongs to the class of medications known as antifungals, which function by inhibiting the growth of fungus.
Uses and Dosage
Prior to application of this medication, cleanse and dry the infected toenail(s). A minimum of 10 minutes should elapse post-shower, bathing or washing before application.
This medication is to be used solely on the infected toenail(s) as per your physician’s instructions, usually administered once daily for 48 weeks. In the case of a child recipient, an adult should administer the medication.
Using the brush provided, apply the solution to the infected toenail(s), ensuring complete coverage of the toenail, toenail folds, toenail bed, and beneath the edges of the toenail. After application, remember to wash your hands.
Avoid contact with other areas of the body when applying this medication. If accidental exposure occurs, wipe off the medication and thoroughly rinse with water.
To obtain the maximum benefit from this medication, it should be used consistently and at the same time every day.
Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed, as nail fungus therapy usually requires extended duration to allow for the growth of healthy nails, replacing the infected toenail(s). Terminating treatment too early may result in continued growth of fungus, leading to a relapse of the infection.
Notify your doctor if your condition does not show improvement or worsens.
Due to the potential flammability of this product, avoid proximity to heat sources or open flames.
Side Effects
Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention:
- pain, redness, swelling, burning, stinging, itching, or blisters where the medicine was applied
- ingrown toenail
- blisters in the area around the affected toenail
Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any serious side effects:
- severe redness, itching, or swelling of the affected toenail
Caution
Prior to using efinaconazole, disclose any allergies to this medication, other azole antifungals (such as clotrimazole, fluconazole, ketoconazole), or any other allergies to your physician or pharmacist. This product may contain inactive ingredients that have the potential to cause allergic reactions or other complications.
Inform your physician or pharmacist of your medical history before using this medication.
During pregnancy, this medication should only be used when absolutely necessary. The risks and benefits of its use should be discussed with your doctor.
It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
