Description

Indications

Loteprednol is indicated for the treatment of specific ocular conditions resulting from inflammation or injury, as well as for post-operative ocular therapy. Loteprednol exerts its therapeutic effects by mitigating the symptoms of inflammation, including edema, erythema, and pruritus. This medication belongs to the category of pharmaceuticals referred to as corticosteroids.

Uses and Dosage

Refrain from wearing contact lenses while using this medication, unless specifically instructed otherwise by your doctor. Prior to resuming use of your contact lenses, sterilize them according to the manufacturer’s instructions and consult with your doctor.

If you are using other eye medications, such as drops or ointments, wait at least 5 to 10 minutes before applying any other medications. In order to allow the drops to fully penetrate the eye, use eye drops before using ointments.

To derive maximum benefit from this medication, it should be used regularly at the same time(s) each day. The dosage and duration of treatment will be determined based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Do not exceed the prescribed dosage or duration of use, as doing so may increase the likelihood of adverse effects.

Continue using this medication for the entire prescribed period, and to avoid discontinuing its use without consulting your doctor. The sudden discontinuation of some medications can worsen certain conditions. Your doctor may need to gradually reduce your dosage.

Do not use this medication if it appears to be contaminated (e.g., if the drops have changed color). Use of contaminated eye medication can result in infection, severe damage to the eye, and even loss of vision.

To administer the eye drops, the following steps should be followed:

  1. Thoroughly wash hands with soap and water.
  2. Do not allow the dropper tip to touch the eye or any other surface, and ensure that it is kept clean.
  3. Tilt the head back and pull down the lower lid of the eye using the index finger to form a pocket.
  4. Hold the dropper as close to the eye as possible without making contact, and brace the remaining fingers against the face.
  5. Squeeze the dropper gently to instill a single drop in the pocket created by the lower eyelid while looking upwards.
  6. Remove the index finger from the lower eyelid and keep the eye closed for 2-3 minutes while tilting the head down.
  7. Apply gentle pressure to the tear duct using a finger.
  8. Use a tissue to wipe off any excess liquid from the face.
  9. Wash hands to remove any residual medication.
