Description

Indications

Nabumetone is indicated for the management of pain, tenderness, swelling, and stiffness resulting from osteoarthritis (a degenerative joint disease characterized by the erosion of joint cartilage) and rheumatoid arthritis (an autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation of the joints).

Nabumetone belongs to the class of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and functions by stopping the body’s production of a substance that causes pain, fever, and inflammation.

Uses and Dosage

Follow your physician’s instructions when taking this medication orally, usually once or twice a day with a full glass of water (8 ounces or 240 milliliters).

After taking the medication, do not recline for at least 10 minutes. To prevent stomach irritation, consume it with food, milk, or an antacid.

The dosage of this medication is determined by your medical condition and response to therapy. To mitigate the likelihood of adverse effects such as stomach bleeding, use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration feasible. Do not increase your dose or frequency of administration beyond the prescribed level.

For chronic diseases like arthritis, continue taking the medication as prescribed by your physician. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist about the potential benefits and hazards.

In some cases, it may take up to 2 weeks of regular use before experiencing the full benefits of the medication, particularly in conditions like arthritis.

If you are using this medication on an “as needed” basis (not on a regular schedule), keep in mind that pain relievers work best if they are used when pain first appears. Delaying until the pain worsens may result in reduced effectiveness of the medication.

If your condition worsens, inform your doctor.

Caution

Prior to taking nabumetone, inform your healthcare provider or pharmacist about any allergies you may have, including allergies to aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen, naproxen, and celecoxib, or any other allergies. Inactive components present in this product may cause allergic reactions or other problems.

Prior to using this medication, inform your healthcare provider or pharmacist about your medical history, particularly if you have asthma (including a history of breathing difficulties after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs), bleeding or clotting disorders, nasal polyps, heart disease, high blood pressure, liver disease, stroke, or stomach/intestinal/esophagus issues (such as bleeding, ulcers, recurring heartburn).

To avoid dehydration, consume plenty of fluids as instructed by your doctor and inform your doctor immediately if you experience a change in urine volume.

This medication may cause stomach bleeding. Daily alcohol and tobacco usage, particularly when combined with this medication, may increase the risk of stomach bleeding. Restrict alcohol and quit smoking.

This medication may cause increased sensitivity to sunlight. Minimize your exposure to sunlight, avoid tanning beds and sun lamps, and wear protective clothing and sunscreen while outdoors. Inform your doctor immediately if you develop sunburn or skin blisters/redness.

While using this medication, older adults may be at greater risk of stomach/intestinal bleeding, kidney problems, heart attack, and stroke.

Women of childbearing age should speak with their doctor(s) about the advantages and disadvantages of this medication prior to using it. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, inform your doctor. This medication may harm an unborn child and cause problems during normal labor and delivery. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy from 20 weeks until delivery. If your doctor determines that you require this medication between 20 and 30 weeks of pregnancy, use the lowest effective dose for the shortest period feasible.
