Description

Indications

This medication serves to alleviate discomfort, pain, frequent urination, and urinary tract spasms resulting from an infection or medical procedure. It consists of various components with specific functions. Methenamine acts as an antibacterial agent, while methylene blue, belonging to the group of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO inhibitors), functions as an antiseptic to inhibit bacterial growth in the urinary tract. Salicylate, a pain reliever similar to aspirin, is also included. This product also contains ingredients such as sodium phosphate and benzoic acid to acidify the urine, enhancing the effectiveness of methenamine. Lastly, hyoscyamine, an antispasmodic drug, relaxes the muscles in the urinary tract, providing relief from cramps and spasms.

Uses and Dosage

Take this medication orally as instructed by your doctor, typically four times a day. With each dose, consume a full glass of water (8 ounces/240 milliliters). After taking the medication, refrain from lying down for at least 10 minutes. During your treatment with this medication, it’s important to stay well-hydrated unless your doctor advises otherwise. If you experience stomach upset, you may take this medication with food.

The prescribed dosage depends on your medical condition, age, and response to treatment. Avoid increasing the dose or using this medication more frequently or for a longer duration than prescribed. Doing so won’t hasten your recovery and could heighten the risk of side effects.

Antacids may diminish the absorption and effectiveness of this product. If you’re also using antacids, take this medication at least 1 hour before your antacid.

To ensure optimal results, take this medication at regular intervals. To assist in remembering, take it at the same times every day.

Caffeine can intensify the side effects of this medication. Avoid consuming large quantities of caffeinated beverages, excessive amounts of chocolate, or nonprescription products containing caffeine.

Should your condition fail to improve within a few days or if you develop symptoms of a urinary tract infection (such as a burning sensation, pain, or frequent urination), promptly inform your doctor.

Caution

Prior to taking this medication, inform your doctor or pharmacist about any allergies you have, including allergies to any of its components, aspirin, NSAIDs, belladonna alkaloids, or any other allergies. This product might contain inactive ingredients capable of triggering allergic reactions or other complications.

Before using this medication, provide your medical history to your doctor or pharmacist, particularly if you have kidney or liver issues, urinary blockages, difficulties in urination, stomach or intestinal disorders, glaucoma (narrow-angle type), heart problems, high blood pressure, myasthenia gravis, bleeding or clotting problems, certain enzyme deficiencies, aspirin-sensitive asthma, nasal polyps, stroke, severe or frequent headaches, a particular type of adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma), or dehydration.

This medication may induce dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. The consumption of alcohol or marijuana can exacerbate these effects. Refrain from operating vehicles or machinery or engaging in activities that demand alertness or clear vision until you can do so safely.

Restricting tobacco and alcohol usage can lower the risk of stomach bleeding.

This medication might lead to reduced sweating, increasing the likelihood of heatstroke. Avoid activities that could cause overheating, such as strenuous work or exercise in hot weather or using hot tubs. When it’s hot outside, ensure you drink plenty of fluids and wear lightweight clothing. If you begin to overheat, find a place to cool down and rest. This product contains salicylate, related to aspirin. Individuals under 18, including children and teenagers, should not use aspirin or aspirin-related medications if they have chickenpox, the flu, any undiagnosed illness, or have recently received a live virus vaccine without consulting their doctor. This is due to the rare but serious illness known as Reye’s syndrome.

Older adults may experience heightened sensitivity to the side effects of this drug, particularly confusion, agitation, drowsiness, unusual excitement, constipation, and difficulty urinating. Confusion and drowsiness can increase the risk of falls.
