Description

Indications

Norethindrone is indicated for the treatment of women with abnormal uterine bleeding, amenorrhea (absence of menstrual periods for several months), and endometriosis, a condition characterized by the presence of uterine tissue outside the uterus that results in painful or irregular periods.

Norethindrone belongs to the class of progestins, which are female hormones similar to progesterone naturally produced by the body. It acts by inhibiting the normal growth of the uterine lining during the menstrual cycle and inducing hormonal changes in the uterus to restore regular menstrual periods.

Uses and Dosage

Norethindrone is administered orally in the form of tablets. The dosage schedule of norethindrone is contingent on the specific medical condition being treated and the response to treatment.

In cases of endometriosis, it is taken once daily for a period of 6 to 9 months or until breakthrough bleeding becomes disruptive.

To induce menstruation in women who have stopped menstruating, it is typically taken once daily for 5 to 10 days during the second half of the planned menstrual cycle.

Take norethindrone at the same time each day as scheduled. Carefully follow the instructions on your prescription label, and seek clarification from your healthcare provider or pharmacist if any aspect of the directions is unclear. Do not exceed the prescribed dosage or frequency of norethindrone.

In instances of endometriosis, it is likely that your physician will initiate treatment with a low dose and gradually increase the dose, no more than once every two weeks.

While norethindrone may help alleviate symptoms, it does not provide a cure. Even if you feel better, continue taking norethindrone as directed by your doctor. Do not discontinue use without first consulting with your doctor.
