Description

Indications

Cabergoline is indicated for the treatment of hyperprolactinemia, a condition characterized by elevated levels of prolactin hormone. While prolactin plays a vital role in lactation for breastfeeding women, its excessive presence can lead to various symptoms such as infertility, sexual dysfunctions, and osteoporosis in non-breastfeeding women and men. Classified as a dopamine receptor agonist, cabergoline operates by reducing the levels of prolactin within the body.

Uses and Dosage

Cabergoline is administered orally in the form of tablets. Typically, it is taken twice a week, with or without food.

Follow the prescribed dosage of cabergoline precisely, avoiding both excessive or insufficient intake as well as exceeding the recommended frequency specified by your doctor.

Typically, your doctor will initiate treatment with a conservative dosage of cabergoline, gradually adjusting it as necessary, but no more frequently than once every four weeks.

Do not discontinue cabergoline without consulting your doctor. In such cases, your doctor will likely recommend a gradual reduction of the dosage.

FAQ

How long can I take Dostinex for?

Dostinex use is usually stopped when prolactin levels are normal for 6 months. It may be given again if symptoms of too much prolactin occur again.

How fast does Dostinex lower prolactin?

Prolactin levels usually fall within the first two to three weeks of treatment, but detectable decreases in adenoma size take more time, usually several weeks to months.
