Description

Indications

Azilsartan is indicated for monotherapy or adjunctive therapy in the treatment of hypertension. It belongs to the pharmacological class of angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of specific endogenous compounds that constrict blood vessels, thereby promoting enhanced blood flow and improved cardiac efficiency.

Uses and Dosage

Azilsartan is administered orally in the form of tablets. Typically, it is taken once a day, with or without food.

Establishing a consistent daily schedule for administration aids in adherence. Adhere to the prescribed dosage regimen of azilsartan precisely, refraining from increasing or decreasing the dosage or frequency of intake without medical guidance.

While azilsartan effectively regulates high blood pressure, it does not offer a cure. The full therapeutic benefits of azilsartan may become noticeable after approximately two weeks of regular use.

Continue taking azilsartan even if you feel well. Discontinuing the medication should only be done after consulting with your doctor.

Side Effects

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention:

  • abdominal discomfort
  • back pain
  • constipation
  • decreased sexual ability
  • diarrhea
  • dizziness
  • dry mouth
  • fatigue
  • headache

Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any serious side effects:

  • anxiety
  • cough
  • irregular, rapid, or pounding heartbeat
  • lightheadedness when rising from a sitting or lying position
  • dizziness
  • fainting
  • swelling of the ankles, feet or hands

Caution

Prior to initiating azilsartan, inform your healthcare provider or pharmacist about any known allergies, including hypersensitivity to azilsartan or other substances. Inactive ingredients present in the product can potentially trigger allergic reactions or other complications.

Before commencing treatment with this medication, disclose your medical history to your doctor or pharmacist, particularly if you have a history of dehydration or elevated blood potassium levels.

This drug may induce dizziness. Consumption of alcohol or marijuana can exacerbate dizziness. Refrain from engaging in activities that require alertness, such as driving or operating machinery, until you are confident in your ability to perform them safely.

The use of this medication may lead to increased potassium levels in the body. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking potassium supplements or using salt substitutes that contain potassium.

Elderly individuals may exhibit heightened sensitivity to the adverse effects of this drug, including dizziness and alterations in urinary output (indicative of kidney problems).

If you are pregnant or planning to conceive, inform your doctor accordingly. Do not become pregnant while using azilsartan, as it may pose risks to the unborn baby. In the event of pregnancy, promptly consult your doctor to assess the potential benefits and risks associated with this medication.

The passage of this drug into breast milk is currently unknown. Prior to breastfeeding, consult your doctor for guidance and advice.
