Description

Indications

The combination of dutasteride and tamsulosin is prescribed to treat men who are experiencing symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Benign enlargement of the prostate is a common issue that tends to occur as men age.

Dutasteride functions by inhibiting the action of an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase, responsible for converting testosterone into another hormone that triggers prostate gland growth. As a result of dutasteride’s action, the prostate size decreases. Tamsulosin contributes to the treatment by relaxing the muscles in the prostate gland and the bladder’s opening. This relaxation helps enhance urine flow and may alleviate associated symptoms of BPH.

Follow your doctor’s instructions and take this medication orally, usually once a day, 30 minutes after the same meal each day.

Swallow the medication whole and avoid crushing, chewing, or opening the capsules.

Be aware that this medication may cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, leading to dizziness or fainting. The risk of this effect is higher when starting the treatment or after restarting it following a pause. During these periods, exercise caution in situations where fainting could result in injury.

For optimal benefits, adhere to a regular dosing schedule and take the medication at the same time each day. Consider using reminders to help you remember.

Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should not handle this medication, as it can be absorbed through the skin and may harm an unborn baby.
